What is Tinnitus

It is most often accompanied by a host of symptoms such as vertigo, TMJ, Eustachian tube dysfunction, and brain fog to name a few.

Tinnitus can come in many different forms; ringing, whooshing, hissing, pulsatile, and varying pitches.

These patients usually suffer from multiple chronic conditions and have exhausted most forms of conventional health care.

One-third of all our patients have tinnitus in combination with other conditions when they come to our office.

Tinnitus is difficult.  To be transparent, we find that one-third of the cases who suffer from tinnitus resolve, one third improve, and one third do not respond to care.

With that said, for those that respond they are grateful that the annoying ring in their ears remits.

Upper cervical doctors are well trained to locate, analyze, and correct spinal misalignment in the upper neck region. This anatomical region is the most complex neurological and structural area of the body.

Two PubMed research articles implicate the upper cervical spine's involvement in Tinnitus.(1,2) The Stapedius muscle is known as the dampening muscle of the inner ear.

Clovis or muscle spasm of this muscle has been connected to chronic tinnitus. The stapedius muscle is controlled by the second cervical nerve root and as a consequence neck injury can directly affect neuro pathways that have been implicated in causing chronic tinnitus.

What is Pulsatile Tinnitus?

If you have a thumping or whooshing sound in one or both ears that seems to follow a steady beat, you may have this rare form of tinnitus.

Like regular tinnitus, you hear a constant sound that others don’t. But with the pulsatile form of this condition, the noise comes from inside your body. Your doctor may be able to hear it, too, if she listens with a stethoscope. It’s also called rhythmic, vascular, or pulse-synchronous tinnitus.

Pulsatile Tinnitus Treatment

Conventional mainstream medicine does not have a cure for pulsatile tinnitus. In some instances, it can be related to high blood pressure. Some patients find a reduction in their high blood pressure can help or ameliorate pulsatile tinnitus.

In some instances pulsatile tinnitus can be related to the following conditions:

Irregular blood vessels. This is a common issue. When blood flows through damaged or kinked vessels in the brain near or around the ear, it can change pressure and noise.

A narrow or kinked neck artery (the carotid artery) or vein (the jugular vein) also can cause the sound.

High blood pressure.

This can lead to a change in blood flow, and things like stress, alcohol, and caffeine can make the noise more noticeable.

Anemia or an overactive thyroid gland. These can make your blood flow quickly and loudly.

What is Blair Upper Cervical Technique?

Blair Upper Cervical doctors are specially trained to locate spinal misalignments in the upper cervical spine and correct them.

Spinal misalignment is located by running a battery of neurological tests that locate the spinal segments that have been injured and misaligned by a prior neck injury.

Once located, precision imaging in the form of digital x-ray or cone-beam computed tomography (Cbct) is used to precisely determine which joint has misaligned and the angulation of the misaligned joint.

Each person’s anatomy is different and therefore imaging is used to uncover the blueprint to be used to correct each patient’s individual misalignment pattern.

Once this information is gleaned, a gentle, light correction is made without twisting, popping, or pulling. The patient is then monitored over time to ensure that the correction is holding.

If the testing indicates the need for another correction, then it is performed. However, the goal of Blair Upper Cervical Care is for the patient to stay in “adjustment”.

It isn’t the correction that produces healing. It is the removal of nerve irritation and the adjustment “holding” in its normal position that allows the body to function better and proceed through a healing process.

This is how Blair Chiropractic treatment can often help remove the underlying cause of many who suffer from Vertigo, dizziness, neck pain, headaches, and other chronic health problems by supporting the body in healing itself.
